As if hip-hop’s highlight of the year wasn’t already Rihanna stealing the show on Kendrick Lamar‘s DAMN with their tremendous duet “Loyalty,” yesterday rappin’ Riri returned out of nowhere on N*E*R*D‘s new absolute banger, “Lemon.”

The existence of another N*E*R*D project has been the subject of speculation since The Neptunes‘ side-project’s last release, Nothing, seven years ago. Since then, while a trio of N*E*R*D-credited track on the 2015 Spongebob Squarepants soundtrack made fans hopeful, Pharrell‘s rise in the film scoring and legendary hat world has left his relationship with fellow NERD/Neptune Chad Hugo in question. Even his teasing of a new N*E*R*D project last February was met with a certain cynicism.

But here we are, just a few days shy of the group’s reunion at ComplexCon and we have a whole new Rihanna-fueled track with a spellbinding video. Directed by Todd Tourso and Scott Cudmore the clip features longtime Pharrell collaborator Mette Towley shaking her groove thang, giving a physical manifestation to how “Lemon” makes us feel. While we have no date, or even title, for the new album yet, even the single’s art makes us excited for a full-fledged N*E*R*D resurrection.

Kendrick Lamar also dropped a high profile collaboration yesterday, his U2 joint-production “Get Out of Your Own Way.”

Chance the Rapper joined Francis and the Lights in Chicago last night to perform Hamilton‘s “Dear Theodosia.”

Year of the Migos continues on their new track with Stalley, “My Line.”

– Keep a spot on your Oscar ballot open, Danny Brown is prepping a live performance documentary.
