It’s been a decade since Wale exploded from Washington D.C. as the young upstart who liked Seinfeld, go-go bands and had a song with Lady Gaga. A decade later he’s continued to have “Staying Power,” and has no qualms about flexing it in his new video. Now free from Atlantic Records, the MMG “No Hands” hero is taking us through a late night run to show he can still stack-syllables with the best of them.
Directed by Chris Hernandez (T.I.‘s “Out My Face“) the clip gives a great contrast of all that Wale has accomplished over the past ten years while still staying true to his neighborhood roots. Now that Wale seems to be in a healthier, happier place, “Staying Power” is a promising glimpse as what could be next for the hottest free agent in the game.
If you’re playing catch-up with Wale’s great 2018, check out his anti-Valentine’s Day song “All Star Break Up” and his surprise EP It’s Complicated. Today he also wished Jamal Crawford of our Minnesota Timberwolves a “Happy Birthday,” so he’s legally now an honorary Minnesotan.
