Over the past two years, Ellen has give us some memorable hip-hop performances, but none have been as outright adorable as Anna Kendrick rapping M.O.P.’s 2000 classic “Ante Up” on yesterday’s episode.
Promoting her new film A Simple Favor, Kendrick and Ellen agreed to do simple favors for each other. While Kendrick got to take over Ellen’s Twitter account, Ellen asked that Kendrick recreate a scene of her rapping in the car.
Impressive as it is that any non-hip-hop based celebrity would choose an M.O.P. song, Kendrick earns extra points by not doing the more famous Busta Rhymes/Remy Ma-assisted remix and instead rapping the DR Period-produced original laced with DJ Premier cuts straight from M.O.P.’s classic 2000 album Warriorz, considered by many to be the last boom-bap rap album of its era.
A Simple Favor opens Friday, September 14.
