Tis the season for…well…lots of things. But it is especially the season for looking back on the year that was and all of our favorite things from 2018. Ben and Dana are naming their favorite things from around town and also getting input from the #GoFam for their consensus as well.
What a year it has been for the artists we play on Go963 in 2018. From huge bands like Panic! at the Disco and Twenty-One Pilots dropping huge albums to Lovelytheband and Billie Eilish breaking out, it has been a great year. But what was our absolute favorite song of the year?
We had these guys play our GoFest 18 this summer and they absolutely blew everybody away despite the fact it was approximately 9 million degrees. Broken was the highest played song on the radio this year. Oh, and guess who was the first station to play it? Of course it was us at Go963!!!
Bastille had a huge year and a massive hit with Happiness that will probably be the song that people think of when they think Bastille in 2019. But it was their summer jam Quarter Past Midnight that was my favorite song of the year. It’s a fun song about those burning those late-night hours with your friends.
It was definitely the song of the summer for me and has stuck with me enough to make it my song of the year. Seeing Bastille perform it live at our Snow Show solidified that. Such a fun, upbeat summer anthem.
There were votes for over 40 different songs for this, but ultimately High Hopes by Panic! at the Disco was picked by the Go Fam. This was the biggest hit ever for Brendon Urie and the boys, having crossed over to the pop world as well. As Melissa said, “It’s just one of those songs that you hear the first few measures and you’re already pumped up.” I agree. Certified treadmill BANGER.
