Tis the season for…well…lots of things. But it is especially the season for looking back on the year that was and all of our favorite things from 2018. Ben and Dana are naming their favorite things from around town and also getting input from the #GoFam for their consensus as well.

We all do it. We all go to the bathroom. We can talk about it openly. So where is your favorite public bathroom in the Twin Cities? That one bathroom that you don’t mind using and, if you’re being honest with yourself, you actually look forward to using? We made our picks as well as counted the votes/suggestions from the Go Fam.

Ben – Stanley’s Northeast Bar Room – Northeast

The Twin Cities is nationally and internationally known for some of the nicest and most memorable bathrooms. There are some spots that will stick in your brain like a fungus because they’re so nasty. That’s not what we’re doing today. We wanted to talk about our favorite bathrooms and the first thing that came to mind and wouldn’t leave was Stanley’s in Northeast. Not only does Stanley’s have the best nachos I’ve ever had in my life (get the brisket) but one time I went to go potty and was blown away.

If you listen to the show, you guys know that I’m kind of obsessed with death and the dying process… Probably because there is so much we don’t know. So, when I walked into the bathroom at Stanley’s, I didn’t even know what to do. They have these giant, almost 5 or 6 feet tall ceramic coffin looking urinals in the men’s bathroom. It’s almost like a phone booth without a door that closes behind you. I was worried, frantic as to how to work this thing but apparently… You just potty into it.

Does Stanley’s have the nicest bathrooms? No. Are they old and weird? Yes. But, you asked for my favorite and there it is. Giant ceramic casket looking urinals. Try it and let me know what you thought about that experience.

Dana – Amazing Thailand – Uptown

I wasn’t expecting to have my life changed the first time I went to the bathroom at Amazing Thailand. I was on a date with a gal I had just recently started seeing. I excused myself to go to the bathroom, not because I had to go necessarily, I mostly just wanted to check my phone and brainstorm some conversation topics since things were still new.

I sat down and my life would never be the same. “Is…is this toilet seat hated? My god! It is! What a delight! And what is this mechanism next to me that looks like the control panel on a spaceship? You mean THIS THING SPRAYS WATER! I want to move into this bathroom stall and never leave.”

I eventually returned to the table after spending entirely too much time in the bathroom. My date look concerned, clearly, after I was gone for like 15 minutes. I asked her if she had ever been to the bathrooms here. She said she hadn’t. I said go check them out, you won’t believe it.

Then, eventually after entirely too much time in the bathroom, she returned as well. She didn’t need to say anything. I could tell by the look on her face that her mind was blown. We only went out a few more times after that night. But we’ll always have that life-changing experience at Amazing Thailand.

#GoFam – Varsity Theater – Dinkytown

The Go Fam was unified in the voting for this one. Varsity Theater ran away with things. The bathroom is very majestic and has won awards for being the best bathroom in the Twin Cities in the past. As Lindsey put it on Facebook, “The Varsity bathroom is like being in a castle.”
