Tis the season for…well…lots of things. But it is especially the season for looking back on the year that was and all of our favorite things from 2018. Ben and Dana are naming their favorite things from around town and also getting input from the #GoFam for their consensus as well.

To kick off our Ben and Dana’s Best of 2018 List we are starting with…breweries. I know, I know. Huge shock there. I don’t know if you know this about Ben and I, but if you’re ever looking for us, a local brewery here in the Twin Cities would be a good place to start.

Here are our picks!

Ben – Indeed Brewing – Northeast Minneapolis

Indeed has been around since almost the beginning. Before there was a brewery on every corner, Indeed raised the bar by carving out their nook in Northeast Minneapolis. If you’ve never been to Indeed, be patient in following Google Maps because it’s back in an old industrial park. Indeed has the best grouping of hoppy and very drinkable and fun beers. “Day Tripper” is their flagship IPA but I crush the “Peach Bum” IPA most of the summer. Don’t sleep on Indeed’s “Rum King” Imperial Stout… If you can find it.

If you love a local business that supports other local business, has a great product and crowdsources by giving back to the community, check out Indeed on Wednesday’s for #IndeedWeCan. On Wednesday’s between 3p-11p, all net proceeds will be donated to a non-profit picked by one of the employees.

Dana – Utepils Brewing – Minneapolis

I discovered Utepils in 2018 and it quickly became one of my favorite spots. Most notably because it was the jump-off spot for one of our Trust Buses where we took a bunch of the Go Fam to St Paul to hang out with Walk the Moon.

Utepils has great beer, a sick location near Bryn-Mar, and my favorite tap room in the Twin Cities. They have a stage for live music, TVs to watch games, and ceilings high enough they could put basketball hoops in there. That isn’t a suggestion, Ken from Utepils…but it kind of is. Basketballs flying all over in a huge room with pint glasses everywhere. What could go wrong?!

#GoFam – Barrel Theory Beer Company – St Paul

We got hundreds of votes on social, text and calls, but the consensus from the Go Fam ended up being Barrel Theory Beer Company in Lowertown. The fam all mentioned the great beers (and creative names), cozy taproom, and the recently added patio as big reasons why they are so great.

Honorable mention goes to Sam on Facebook who said, “Drinking a 40 oz behind the gas station. That has to count!
