Last night hip-hop veteran Common stopped by The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon for a performance of his Swizz Beatz-assisted “Hercules.”

Our latest glimpse into his forthcoming album Let Live, this version benefits from an arrangement by The Roots – adding an extra urgency to the beat and allowing the forefront to spotlight Common’s lyrics, displaying his full return to form.

As someone who has been particularly critical of Common for the past decade-and-a-half, this is the best Common has sounded since the 90s. Fully rejuvenated, this is the same Common we heard at Soundset and with John Legend on the Oscar-winning “Glory.” He’s inspired without being overbearing, and has a vision he’s fully realizing.

Common also spoke to host Fallon about his 70s television crushes and joined him for Wheel of Freestyle.

Common’s Let Love drops August 30.
