You guys, August is upon us. The summer is wrapping up and the biggest blockbusters are behind us, but there are a couple promising titles coming out this week.

August 1

Christopher Robin – Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, and the voices of Jim Cummings and Brad Garrett.

What’s the deal?

Remember when Hook posed the question “what would happen if Peter Pan grew up and lost his idealistic childlike values?” Well, Christopher Robin is basically that except in the Winnie and the Pooh-verse. I am guessing there will also be less teenagers getting stabbed in the heart by older men in wigs than there was in Hook, too.

Christopher Robin has grown up and working a soul-sucking job where is forced to skip a weekend trip with his wife and kids to fire a bunch of people. Not exactly the life we all envisioned for our favorite kiddo from the Hundred Acre Woods. Thankfully Pooh and the gang head to London to help there old pal find his way.

Should you go?

This one is a no-brainer for me. I was a big Pooh kid (ayyy-oh!) growing up and I got a bit teary eyed just seeing the trailer, hearing that soft, familiar voice from my childhood. This one is going to kick me right in the nostalgic feels and I can’t wait. I just wish it was in 3D so the glasses would make the tears less noticeable.

The Spy Who Dumped Me – Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Justin Theroux, and Sam Heughan,

What’s the deal?

Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon play a pair of friends who get caught up in some international conspiracy theory. But you see, these two women aren’t trained spies or anything! Talk about fish out of water! Woooooweeeee! Hijinks?  You can expect them to ensue.

Didn’t Melissa McCarthy just make this movie? I was excited when I saw Kunis and McKinnon were making a comedy together, but is this really the best script they could get them?

Should you go?

It is awesome that two women are starring in a summer action/comedy written and directed by a woman (Susanna Fogel), so yeah you should check it out. I am not overly optimistic about it based on the trailer, but I’ll take a matinee flyer on it.

Weekly Rundown

Current box office champ: Mission: Impossible – Fallout raked in a franchise-best $61.5 million dollars, proving that we don’t care if you’re a weirdo like Tom Cruise as long as you make dope action movies.

This week’s predicted champ: Look for M:I to CRUISE (Ha! Just on fire here today, you guys) to another W.

What opens next week?: Something called Dog Day and The Meg. Woof. The summer definitely is wrapping up.
