That’s right, we have a new Drake release dropping in June 2018.
While all we have to go on are two Instagram posts, we do have confirmation that something titled Scorpion “by Drake” will be released in “JUNE TWENTY EIGHTEEN.”
The obvious connection here should be that Drake’s October 24 birthday makes him a Scorpio, an astrological sign whose symbol is the scorpion. After singles like “God’s Plan” and “Nice For What,” their potential presence on an album reflective of Drake dictated-by-the-stars personality may show a multi-faceted introspective release.
Or, “Scorpion by Drake” may be the Toronto rapper’s debut cologne.
Scorpions/scorpios have a long history in hip-hop. Going back to the 70s pre-recorded days of MCs rocking house parties to the break-a-break-a-dawn, call-and-response routines centered around zodiac signs were outrageously popular. This carried on into the early years of commercial rap releases, most famously on Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five‘s “Scorpio.” This particular track, whose lyrics “shake it baby, show no shame” were intended to motivate early New York City breakdancers, sound like they could also be Drake lyrics about intimacy.
Whatever Scorpion is, it will get over here in a month-and-a-half.
