Today’s announcement of the nominees for the 60th annual Grammy Awards marks the beginning of an intense and well-received Grammy season. In what’s been a very strong year for music, 2017 has seen some of modern alternative’s most exciting names register some major honors. From Gorillaz to K. Flay to Beck, this year’s crop is an exciting bunch.
Imagine Dragons nailed nominations for Best Pop Vocal album and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, the latter has their track “Thunder” squaring-off against Portugal. the Man‘s “Feel It Still.”
The Best Alternative Music Album category marks another interesting match-up, as Arcade Fire‘s Everything Now is in the interesting company of Gorillaz’s Humans. Go Show alumni Jack Antonoff of Bleachers also pulled down an impressive nomination for Album of the Year, thanks to his work on Lorde‘s Melodrama.
Foo Fighters scored a pair of nominations, with “Run” as a favorite to win Best Rock Performance, but the Foos are facing much stiffer competition for Best Rock Song, as they’re sharing the category with K.Flay’s “Blood in the Cut.”
This year’s big “finally” nomination has to be Beck. For someone who the Grammys have always been very generous to, it may surprise you that amongst his 17 career-nominations, this year marks the first (!) time Beck has been up for Best Music Video, thanks to his clip “Up All Night.”
