Each weekday in February, Go 95.3 looks back at an important figure in black history.

Today we feature Grand Wizzard Theodore one of hip-hop’s most important and influential names. A legendary Bronx native, it was Grand Wizzard Theodore who was the first DJ ever to intentionally scratch a record. Any time you’ve ever heard a record scratch on a song, you’ve heard Theodore’ innovations in action. The leader of 80s hip-hop group Grandwizard Theodore & the Fantastic Five, famous for oft-sampled classics like “Can I Get a Soul Clap?” and his turntablism heard on the Wild Style soundtrack, Theodore continues to be a massive force in DJing today, finding new ways to scratch and reinvent his legendary needle-drop technique.
