Each weekday in February, Go 95.3 looks back at an important figure in black history.

Today we feature Public Enemy the rap group who set the bar for politically minded socially conscious lyrics and broke unparalleled ground in the world of sampling. Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Terminator X, The Bomb Squad and The S1Ws created one of the strongest four-album streaks in the genre’s history, with their landmark It Takes A Nation of Millions as the centerpiece. Breaking ground with anthems like “Fight the Power,” “Shut ‘Em Down,” “911 is a Joke” and numerous others, Public Enemy’s work remains a rite of passage for even the most casual of hip-hop fans with a must-see live show that continues to demolish crowds to this day.
