Each weekday in February, Go 95.3 looks back at an important figure in black history.

Today we feature landmark rap trio Salt-N-Pepa! Consisting of members Salt, Pepa and DJ Spinderella, they were one of the first rap artists to have massive longevity between generations. From the 80s classic “Push It” to the essential 90s jam “Whatta Man” to the progressive cultural statement “Let’s Talk About Sex” – and its remix “Let’s Talk About AIDS,” the group’s ahead-of-their-time output massive social impact can still be felt today. In addition to being critical darlings and commercial smashes, the group amassed three MTV Video Music Awards, a Grammy and a Soul Train Lady of Soul Entertainer of the Year award. They continue to tour and were also the beneficiaries of a massive pop culture bump thanks to the inclusion of “Shoop” in the 2016 modern classic Deadpool.
