As you may have heard, Billboard removed crossover hit “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X from their country charts, effectively saying it wasn’t country enough.

Here’s the exact absurd quote that Billboard gave to Rolling Stone:

“When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”

This is ridiculous. What are the “Elements of today’s country music?” How much of them qualifies as “enough?”

Regardless, being we at Go 95.3 embrace Modern Hip-hop and aren’t stuck in the antiquated past of outdated arbitrary rigid genre dynamics, Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” will always have a saloon to mosey into on our channel.
