While Lin-Manuel Miranda probably hasn’t had to deal with a bully as a peer for quite a number of years now, the subject of his high school bully did pop up during his appearance on popular podcast WTF with Marc Maron this week.

During a discussion about how Miranda discovered who he was as a high school student on that theater stage, which veered into discussing moments when high schools would get unlikely students involved, he shared this little chestnut:

“There’s a famous alum of my high school…his ‘rapper name’ is Immortal Technique. He’s one of the most, sort-of politically ideological, he’s really made an incredible life for himself as a rapper. He was our school bully. He’d terrorize kids, he’d throw them in the garbage. I got thrown in the garbage by him. He was a really angry kid, and it’s been wonderful to watch him grow up and find a political outlet for that anger, but he was just Felipe and he scared the shit out of us.

But he was in the school play! He got a part the senior year, and I was like ‘Oh my God, I’m in a fucking play with the dude who scares the shit out of all my friends!'”

Technique hasn’t responded. While Miranda’s next focus is The Hamilton Mixtape dropping in two weeks, music-wise, Tech’s been adamant about his next album The Middle Passage (which he’s been working on since 2004), is finally dropping next year.
