Nothing lasts forever, J. Cole has taken aim at one of his heroes with comments today on Nas.
Cole, who famously recorded “Let Nas Down” in 2013 in response to hearing Nas – one of his heroes – didn’t enjoy his 2011 single “Work Out,” told Billboard today “I don’t f*** with people abusing women, and I don’t f*** with people not taking care of their kids.”
Cole’s comments are in response to the allegations from Nas’ ex Kelis stating that Nas was physically, verbally and mentally abusive. Nas responded in an extensive Instagram post claiming that Kelis was at fault, a post that has been heavily criticized for resembling gaslighting.
Here’s the full J. Cole quote in context:
How did you process the allegations of abuse that Kelis made against your hero Nas, who was an adult during their relationship?
Yeah, that hurt. I ain’t going to lie. That hurts. [Pauses.] It feels weird because I f*** with Nas, but I just have to be honest. I came up seeing too much f***ed-up s*** for that to be acceptable. I don’t care who it is. I don’t f*** with people abusing women, and I don’t f*** with people not taking care of their kids.
