It is exceedingly, improbably out-of-this-world rare that a Grammy Award ends up in a tie, but that’s exactly what happened like night at The 61st Annual Grammy Awards when Anderson .Paak and Kendrick Lamar tied for Best Rap Performance.
In 61 years of the Grammys, this is only the 22nd time a tie has happened. The full list of ties can be seen here, note how even rarer it is that a tie happens in a single song category.
While Kendrick was not at the ceremony to accept his half of the trophy for “King’s Dead” with Jay Rock, Future and James Blake, Anderson .Paak was there accepting the award for “Bubblin” with his son Soul Rasheed.
Paak found out about the win earlier in the day when he and his son were in urgent care, and the exact moment of the victory is immortalized here:

Me and soul was suppose to hit the grammys together but he woke up not feeling well. While we were in urgent care my phone started going crazy!!
