Rick Ross put some issues with Birdman into visual form.
Few artists have as impressive of a win/loss record in rap beefs as Rick Ross. Eleven years after his Def Jam debut, he’s still going toe-to-toe with the names few dare to challenge. As the Rick Ross-Birdman beef escalates, it’s now crossed over into the video world with “Idols Become Rivals.”
Using a surprising amount of non-subtle Biblical imagery, opening with both a Baptist sermon and a burning bush, it’s a scathing indictment accusing Ca$h Money’s entire legacy of riches and “bling bling” to be rented, leased and counterfeit. Ross, meanwhile, shows off his estate, sips his champagne and lives not just like a “boss” but a video game’s castle-dwelling “end boss.”
Notable about the clip is a cameo from one-time in-house Ca$h Money producer Bangledesh, who produced both “A Milli” and “6 Foot 7 Foot” for Lil Wayne and wound up having to take legal action multiple times to collect royalties.
While Birdman had previously used a Rick Ross lookalike in his latest video, he’s stated in interviews that a full-fledged response record wasn’t of interest. We’ll see if “Idols Become Rivals” changes that stance.
