Minnesota native and YouTube sensation Molly Kate Kestner just released a song that will be forever tied to Prince’s death.

“Good Die Young” is her first track as an Atlantic Records signee.

Internet famous

Kestner — who is from Austin, Minnesota, but has since relocated to Los Angeles — garnered worldwide attention on YouTube. Her first video on her page was uploaded four years ago and is a cover of Maria Mena’s “All This Time (Pick-Me-Up Song).”

Fast forward to two years later, she was a senior year in high school and used her channel to post an emotional, original song, “His Daughter,” which received 7 million views within a couple of weeks. Since then, the original video and lyrics about faith, an unplanned pregnancy, and both emotional and alcohol abuse has reached over 15 million views.

She told ABC News that this she couldn’t have predicted the the swift takeoff of the video, because it was just another regular upload of a song she wrote in 15 minutes and recorded on a cracked iPhone while playing her grandma’s out-of-tune piano. For perspective, she uploaded the track around the same time she broadcasted the aftermath of her wisdom-teeth removal to the world.

“Good Die Young”

The FADER premiered “Good Die Young” on Thursday. According to a press release, the record was written on April 21, 2016, the same day Minnesota legend Prince died.

The 21-year-old told FADER that although the passing of a major inspiration to many had her feeling down, “The last thing I wanted to do was drive to my session, but I’m glad I did. Because that was the day we wrote ‘Good Die Young.'”

The song is now available on the place where it all began, YouTube, as well as SpotifyiTunes, Apple Music and Google Play. So far, it has been included in Apple Music’s “Best of the Week” list and featured in Spotify’s “New Music Friday” roundup. Have a listen for yourself below.
