Dangerdoom is getting the re-release treatment.
Questions? It’s the 2005 collaboration album between producer Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley, Broken Bells, Beck) and rapper MF DOOM, The Mouse and the Mask. Now, it’s getting a 12th anniversary update, including this unreleased Black Thought-assisted jam “Mad Nice.”
While this isn’t the first The Mouse and the Mask reissue, its announcement arriving with a track like “Mad Nice” has our interest piqued. Here, the Roots emcee Black Thought (four years before becoming a late-night TV bandleader) taps into the life-affirming nostalgia that echoes throughout the best of Danger Mouse’s pre-Gnarls work, while DOOM sounds inspired to keep up next to an MC he has actual competition with on a track.
The Mouse and the Mask marked the end of DOOM’s prolific new-album-every-four-months era, leaving fans with a four-year gap before his following release.
That in mind, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that unreleased DOOM tracks from the project have been in the Danger Mouse vault for over a decade. In addition to both the entire The Mouse and the Mask album and the remix Occult Hymn EP, this special edition promises two additional unreleased tracks from the glory days of DOOM. It’s up for pre-order before its May 5 release here.
