It shouldn’t be that surprising that people from around the world love Prince. That definitely includes Japan, where the death of Minnesota’s finest export hit them hard.
During my New Year’s weekend trip to Tokyo, anyone who found out I was from Minnesota expressed their condolences over the loss of Prince.
During a visit to an actual brick-and-mortar Tower Records, which have since disappeared in the U.S., I was pleasantly surprised to see just how much Prince love packed out the place.
Over a half-year removed him his passing, Tokyo is keeping his memory alive with numerous end caps and special releases, including a Japan-only release of a CD from Prince’s legendary 1990 Tokyo Dome performance.
Probably the most shocking item was a shirt that just said “Minneapolis Funk” in purple letters.
Our sound is worldwide, so I took some photos for proof.
