One of the strongest voices in the Twin Cities hip-hop scene, Rich Garvey has been an unstoppable juggernaut with his recent series of singles. For his latest cut with partner in rhyme Nsikak, the duo unleash “Antetokounmpo.” The track is named after NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounpo who was just announced as the NBA 2K19 cover athlete.
Directed by Anthony Brown of Milk Films, the visuals add a heightened tension to the Garvey and Nsikak’s verses over a pulsating original Garvey production.
Garvey told us of the track:
The song is about the duality of being a West African immigrant in a westernized world. It talks about the mind set needed for survival, and it is an anthem for fighting against adversity. The song showcases Nsikak, who is an Nigerian immigrant and myself, who is a Liberian immigrant, and what our perspectives in America are. All while using Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks as a metaphor and a representation because of our similar backgrounds and our fandom.
“Antetokounmpo” can be found on all streaming platforms now.
