We’ve known for a few months that A&E‘s Biography series was working on the first family-approved documentary on the life of The Notorious B.I.G., but now that we have the official trailer for Biggie: The Life of the Notorious B.I.G., our expectations are already exceeded.

This year marks two decades since Biggie’s passing, so the moments of new never-before-seen footage of the Brooklyn icon have become increasingly fewer and far between. Thankfully, the resources and interviews awarded to Biggie: The Life of the Notorious B.I.G.  show there’s quite a lot of new gems and stories about to be bestowed upon us.

In addition to stories from the artists he worked closest with, the amount of unearthed unreleased Biggie clips in the trailer is staggering. At a time when hip-hop biopics have never been more “in,” the music world may not be ready for such a dose of rap reality.

Biggie: The Life of the Notorious B.I.G. premieres on A&E September 4.
