Since A$AP Rocky left his unintentionally extended stay in Sweden, he’s mostly popped up on-stage and in festivals. We’ve just received his first studio material since his release and it’s really dividing the internet.
Rocky’s return is a trailer for a project called Babushka Boy. The clip – which contains new music, is heavily polarizing. Some listeners find it “Weird,” while others find it “Really, really, really weird.”
However, there’s something admirable to how Rocky is using the project as a vulnerable glimpse into how he processed a major trauma. As he told GQ:
“It was inspired by a situation I had where my face got cut, and I started walking around with a Babushka to cover it. It was about last September… It started with a yellow one when I was on Trevor Noah‘s show. I actually did a Vogue shoot the day after I got my face slashed.”
