6lack cemented his status as a live R&B powerhouse with a visually stunning rendition of “Free” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Backed by monitors showing a bevy of bright surrealist imagery, 6lack donned all-black and let the soul of his music color his character. Managing to be both larger-than-life and intimate at the same time, it’s a welcome addition to what’s already been a huge week of late-night hip-hop performances.
The biggest story among 6lack fans about the performance is 6lack’s reveal of a new haircut. The Atlanta singer cutting off his signature dreads, a move which was under wraps until the moment of the reveal here, has become quite divisive.
