Will the real Slim Shady please stand up? While you’re at it, will you please stand right next to Beyoncé for a collaboration we never expected and we’re stunned actually exists? This timeline just got a little less dark with the surprise release of Eminem and Beyoncé’s “Walk on Water.”
Our first taste of Eminem’s forthcoming Revival, “Walk on Water” gives us three verses of self-reflective Eminem coping with the pressures of…well…being Eminem over a piano backdrop with an emotive Beyoncé hook. With references to Em’s other recently heralded verses, such as his collaborations with Tech N9ne and Big Sean, “Walk On Water” is probably the most self-aware and even fourth-wall-breaking Em’s been.
Fans are still abuzz over the antidepressant commercial parodies that have been promoting Revival, looking for more clues toward the album’s release. Many of them speculate he’s going to unveil all the info as part of a massive performance this Sunday at the MTV Europe Music Awards. Eminem can next be seen stateside a week from tomorrow on the November 18 Saturday Night Live, hosted by Chance the Rapper.
