It continues to be a Cole world as J. Cole‘s K.O.D. is not only the number one album in the country, but has become 2018’s fastest selling album. Moving 397,000 copies in its first week, Cole has topped Justin Timberlake‘s Man of the Woods‘ 293,000 first week sales and Migos‘ Culture II‘s 199,000 units.
The feat is even more impressive when you considering the multi-million-dollar promotional campaign for Timberlake’s album that included a Super Bowl performance, and the months of singles and hype building up Migos’ quickly-turned-around follow-up to the previous year’s smash Culture. By comparison, Cole had no singles, no guest features, no commercials and no hype other than announcing the album four days prior at a surprise New York concert.
K.O.D. is Cole’s fifth number-one album. No one to rest on his laurels, Cole is set next to headline the Bumbershoot Festival with SZA and Lil Wayne.
