One of the most debated tracks of the year has been J. Cole‘s “1985.” A detailed letter to the new generation of hip-hop, it’s lead to allegations of escalating feud with newer artists, as well as olive branches crossing the age-gap in hip-hop. That connection has expanded with the DJ Premier remix of the track, which dropped today.
Premier – who many consider hip-hop’s all-time greatest producer – has always been a Cole fan. Once he heard the track on Cole’s K.O.D., he requested the vocals and has given us one of the hardest boom-bap style records of the year.
One-half of legendary duo Gangstarr, Premier has produced classics for everyone from Biggie to Nas to JAY-Z to A$AP Ferg to even Christina Aguilera and Twenty One Pilots. His version of “1985” is absolutely tremendous, and we have it for you on Go 95.3!
– Drake‘s “Nice For What” is back at the top of the charts!
– Stepping up his social media game, Eminem shared a story of actor/Batman Val Kilmer seeing him naked.
– Two days after performing at Soundset, Evidence and Westside Gunn link up for a collaboration.
– Emerging from his hiatus, No Malice weighed-in on former Clipse partner Pusha-T‘s feud with Drake.
