Saturday Night Live kicked off its 43rd (!) season over the weekend with a major premiere event. Hosted by Ryan Gosling, viewers were treated to the rare televised JAY-Z performance as Jigga ushered in the broadcast debut of two tracks from 4:44.

Joined by Damien Marley and the hottest flag-waver in the game today, JAY started SNL‘s musical season with “BAM.” In front of a camouflage background and beneath stylized lights, JAY donned a Colin Kaepernick jersey and made the crowd groove. JAY took a much more intimate approach to his second performance, the album’s title track.
