Drama King and production kaiser DJ Kay Slay has been one of the low-key MVPs of 2017. His sleeper hit album The Big Brother struck a perfect balance of orchestrating dream collaborations and mad scientist wildcard pairings – all with stellar results. His latest gift to us is the French Montana, J Delice, Dave East and Zoey Dollaz-assisted “Rose Showers.”
Kay Slay’s hip-hop pedigree runs deep. After all, he can be seen as a young graffiti writer in the 1983 hip-hop documentary Style Wars. While the rich colorful array of Montana, East and Dollaz on the track can be compared to tagging a train, the visuals with “Rose Showers” are just as striking.
In something of a spiritual successor/tribute to the glory days of BET Un:Cut, we get a highly stylized pink-tinted gaze between cuts of the artists performing and a non-stop bevy of beauties.
– Fashawn also has a new video, the powerful “Proud.”
– Fresh off his show last night at the Cabooze, Curren$y popped up on the brand new Alchemist-produced Nature track “500 lbs. FF Gas.”
– Luda got something to say, and it’s a much more serious Ludacris than usual on “Vices.”
– Oh, and apparently the new Eminem album is completed.
