It appears that, out of all of us, Khalid is continuing to have the best 2017. Our Go Show alumni’s continued accolades have translated into commercial success, and yesterday his debut album American Teen was certified platinum. But even that milestone might not be the best thing to happen to him that day, as he coincidentally made his Late Show with Stephen Colbert debut with a performance of “Young Dumb & Broke.”
Performing without a mic stand, Khalid controls the stage with a unique bob-and-weave, seldom making eye contact with the camera. His reserved, almost shy charisma is contrasted by a hyper-kinetic band who brought an elaborate touch to the largely minimalist original track.
Khalid’s “Young, Dumb & Broke” has spending 14 weeks and counting on the Billboard 200, made even more impressive by the fact that he’s still only 19. Khalid continued his amazing 24 hours by performing this morning on The Today Show and announcing his tour.
Always one to multitask, Khalid even found the time to give TMZ a public service announcement about not grabbing his or Harry Styles’ genitals.
– Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda had some late night fun too, freestyling with The Roots on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
– Brockhampton announced official dates for their wonderfully titled Love Your Parents tour.
– Old school’s in session as DJ Kay Slay dropped a new video with hip-hop legends Ice-T and Kool G Rap.
– Smoke DZA continues his wave of new music with “J.R.’s Off Day.”
