When Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon casually refers to you as “The greatest,” you know you’ve struck a nerve in late night television. So was the case last night when Macklemore returned to 30 Rockefeller Plaza, along with Dave B, Travis Thompson, Budo, Kyla Moscovich and hip-hop legend DJ Premier, to perform “Corner Store.”
Given how elaborate Macklemore’s stage show has become, it shouldn’t come as a surprise how decked out the Tonight Show stage was to accommodate the Seattle MC’s performance. The stylishly faded reproduction of a corner store through a life-sized photograph made for a great contrast with the crystal clear digitally broadcast performance. Plus, it’s always great to watch DJ Premier perform one of his signature scratch-hooks.
“Corner Store” comes from Macklemore’s latest, Gemini. Tonight, he’s set to perform at New York’s legendary Apollo Theater with Skylar Grey. The Seattle rapper briefly lived in NYC in 2005, so even returning a superstar, it’s great to see him in touch with the city’s hip-hop roots.
– Girl power is in full force in Remy Ma and Lil Kim‘s new video “Wake Me Up.”
– Cam’ron continues the world’s greatest media tour on ESPN‘s Highly Questionable.
– Always great to vibe out with new Curren$y as he and Young Roddy bring us “Long As It Lasts.”
– Hip-hop mourned the sudden passing of Long Island rapper Lil Peep at the age of 21.
