Seeing as his new album Gemini drops soon, Macklemore‘s been on the promo run and stopped by Funkmaster Flex‘s studio for the customary Funk Flex freestyle. As is tradition, Macklemore was thrown onto a beat not typically of his style for a wholly unique display.
Over JAY-Z’s 2003 Kanye-produced deep cut “Lucifer,” Macklemore riffs on coming up out of the underground, being an alleged “one-hit wonder” with five certified platinum singles and, much to Flex’s delight, soccer moms. Mack’s strongest turns of phrase seem to go undetected, namely “kick you on your way up” like Solange.
Macklemore’s Budo-produced first solo album in 12 years Gemini arrives this Friday, September 22.
– Cardi B’s “Bodak Yello” remix features Kodak Black who inspired the original and time is a flat circle.
– WestsideGunn and Conway dropped an Alchemist-produced tribute to late wrestling legend Bobby “The Brain” Heenan.
– Year of the Migos continues as Quavo reportedly has a finished duet project with Travis Scott.
– Slum Village member Young RJ’s new track “Motion” is co-produced by Statik Selektah and the late J. Dilla.
