After the release of his new album last Friday, it’s been a big weekend of accolades for the former Odd Future patriarch. Tyler, the Creator continues to reinvent himself with every outing, and performed his most overtly feel-good jam, “911 / Mr. Lonely,” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
It was a far cry in tone from his network television debut six years ago. Instead of the brooding, haunting visceral chaos, we received Tyler having a dance party complete with Soul Train-line and some eye-catching bright attire. There was a disco ball in the shape of a fly, so Tyler is still keeping things joyfully demented for us.
