British indie-rockers Arctic Monkeys debuted their sixth album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino this weekend with a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and a high-concept video for the album’s sorta-single “Four Out of Five.”

The “sorta” is being employed in this situation because this new Arctic Monkeys record we’re getting is a bit of a curveball. Veering sharply from AM‘s slick and radio-ready smolder, Tranquility Base is, stay with me here, a satirical concept album about a resort on the moon.

Frontman and songwriter Alex Turner plays a variety of characters throughout, from a crooning lounge lizard to a obsequious Maître d’hôtel. Think Ziggy Stardust meets Terry Gilliam‘s Brazil meets The Grand Budapest Hotel… or something. We’re still working through it over here ourselves.

Don’t let all of this heady talk scare you away, however, because Tranquility Base still retains all of Tuner’s signature wit, charm, and songwriting mastery. Sonically, Arctic Monkeys are playing in new territory with familiar instruments, adding touches of ’70s psychedelica and ’60s lounge cheeze to their palate.

Check out the complex and conceptual video for “Four Out of Five” below.

– Break out your flat iron and eyeliner! All Time Low and Dashboard Confessional are hitting the road together this summer!

– Ex-Blink-182 guitarist and UFO-Truther Tom Delonge filmed his reaction to hearing his own song played at a baseball game.

– Damn, ya had to go and make feel old on a Monday, didn’t you Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie?

– Congrats and well-wishes to Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy and his partner, who are expecting a baby daughter.
