In his first year of eligibility, Tupac Shakur will officially be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of his death and release date announcement for his forthcoming biopic All Eyez On Me, Pac leads the pack that also includes Pearl Jam, Journey, Joan Baez, Yes, and the Electric Light Orchestra.
Eligibility for the hall requires 25 years having passed since an artist’s debut release. Not including his cameos on Digital Underground records, Pac’s official debut 2Pacalypse Now hit the big 2-5 on November 12 of this year.
Pac’s entry follows Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (who became the Hall’s first hip-hop entries in 2007) as well as Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and N.W.A. He’ll officially be joining them on April 7, in a ceremony at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center.
