Since his days as one-half of Outkast, Big Boi has been consistently dropping creative music videos. His latest solo album Boomiverse has continued this tradition, with the animated Gucci Mane and Pimp C-assisted “In the South.”
It’s sad to think that next month marks ten years since UGK founder Pimp C’s untimely death, and with his tremendous presence on the mic and behind the boards so dearly missed, it was a nice comfort to hear his posthumous hook on this new record.
Gucci Mane, while not a contemporary, has always shown Pimp C’s legacy such reverence, and given how closely Big Boi worked with Pimp C in life, the song makes for a satisfyingly southern endeavor.
The track’s producer Cory Mo is directly responsible for the video, having hooked-up Big Boi – who has had aspirations to break into the animated world for a while – with the directing team Cartoon Buck Productions. Big Boi is said to also have an unrelated forthcoming animated series in the works as well.
